TIMBER & HUTCH WOOD DOOR LIMITED WARRANTY

Timber & Hutch builds, finishes, and ships handcrafted solid wood doors according to the specifications contained in each customer’s approved order. We stand behind our workmanship and materials subject to the terms, conditions, limitations, exclusions, and customer responsibilities described in this Limited Warranty.

By purchasing a Timber & Hutch door, the purchaser acknowledges and agrees to the terms of this Limited Warranty.

1. WARRANTY COVERAGE

Each Timber & Hutch exterior door carries a one (1) year limited warranty from the date of shipment.

This warranty is non-transferable and applies only to the original purchaser.

The warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship attributable to the construction of the door, subject to all conditions and exclusions contained in this Limited Warranty.

Solid wood is a natural material. This warranty does not guarantee that a wood product will remain completely unchanged in appearance, dimensions, moisture content, finish, grain, color, or movement after exposure to environmental conditions.

2. BUILT TO ORDER

Every Timber & Hutch door is built according to the specifications submitted, selected, and approved for the order.

The customer, contractor, builder, architect, designer, installer, or other party submitting specifications is responsible for confirming the accuracy and suitability of:

Door and rough-opening dimensions
Jamb dimensions
Handing and swing direction
Inswing or outswing configuration
Hinge locations
Hardware preparation and backset
Sill and threshold requirements
Glass selections
Wood species
Finish and color selections
Sidelight and transom dimensions
Arch, radius, and specialty dimensions
Applicable building-code requirements
All other customer-supplied specifications

A door manufactured correctly according to the approved order is not defective because an approved specification was incorrect or unsuitable for the customer’s opening or intended application.

Unless expressly stated otherwise in writing, dimensional variations of up to plus or minus 1/8 inch are considered normal for a handcrafted solid wood product and are not defects.

3. INSPECTION AND ACCEPTANCE

Every Timber & Hutch door is inspected before shipment and checked to verify that it is reasonably square, flat, and dimensionally consistent with the approved order.

The customer or installer must inspect the product before installation, finishing, trimming, drilling, hanging, hardware installation, or other modification.

Installation or modification of the door constitutes acceptance of readily observable dimensions, configuration, appearance, and workmanship, except for latent defects that could not reasonably have been discovered during inspection.

If an apparent manufacturing defect exists, Timber & Hutch should be contacted before installation or modification.

4. FREIGHT DAMAGE

Freight and transportation damage are not manufacturing defects.

Customers must thoroughly inspect the shipment, packaging, crate, and product at delivery.

Visible freight damage must be documented in writing on the carrier’s delivery receipt before the shipment is accepted. Photographs of the packaging, crate, product, and damage should be taken immediately.

Failure to document visible freight damage at delivery may prevent Timber & Hutch or the freight carrier from processing a freight claim.

Concealed freight damage must be reported to Timber & Hutch promptly after discovery and supported with photographs of the product and packaging.

Freight damage is handled separately from this Limited Warranty.

5. STORAGE

Proper storage is required to maintain warranty coverage.

Before installation, doors must be:

Stored flat and adequately supported
Stored indoors
Kept in a dry, enclosed, climate-controlled space
Protected from direct sunlight
Protected from rain, snow, standing water, and excessive moisture
Protected from construction moisture and extreme temperature or humidity fluctuations

A solid wood door must never be stored in a garage, carport, porch, trailer, unfinished building, open construction site, or other open-air or uncontrolled environment, even temporarily.

Damage, swelling, shrinkage, checking, splitting, warping, bowing, twisting, cupping, joint movement, or finish deterioration caused or contributed to by improper storage is not covered.

6. INSTALLATION

The door must be installed by a qualified professional experienced in the installation of solid wood exterior doors.

The door and jamb must be installed straight, level, square, and plumb in a structurally sound and properly constructed opening and must be appropriately shimmed and fastened.

All hardware must be properly installed.

The door must have functioning hardware, including a latch, lock, or multipoint system where applicable, capable of holding the door properly closed when not in use.

Timber & Hutch is not responsible for damage or performance issues caused or contributed to by:

Improper installation
Improper framing
Improper shimming or fastening
Structural movement
Building settlement
Improper hardware installation
Improper adjustment
Other work performed by third parties

Fit, reveal, swing, latch alignment, threshold alignment, or alignment between the door and jamb caused by installation or framing is not a manufacturing defect.

7. ENVIRONMENT

The interior side of an exterior door must open into a climate-controlled space where temperature and humidity remain within normal residential ranges.

Solid wood naturally expands and contracts in response to changes in moisture, humidity, and temperature.

Damage caused or contributed to by excessive or uneven moisture, extreme temperatures, uncontrolled humidity, unfinished construction environments, or substantial differences between interior and exterior conditions is not covered.

8. REQUIRED OVERHANG

Every exterior Timber & Hutch wood door must be installed under adequate permanent overhang protection.

For purposes of warranty coverage, an adequate overhang means a roof, porch, or covered structure extending outward from the plane of the door by no less than one-half the vertical distance measured from the bottom of the door to the bottom of the overhang.

For example, if the distance from the bottom of the door to the bottom of the overhang is eight (8) feet, the overhang must project at least four (4) feet outward from the face of the door.

Greater protection may be required for doors exposed to prevailing weather, southern or western sun, coastal conditions, high humidity, or severe environmental exposure.

Doors installed in fully exposed openings or without adequate overhang protection are not covered for damage caused or contributed to by sunlight, rain, snow, moisture, or other environmental exposure.

9. DARK COLORS

Black and other very dark opaque finishes can substantially increase the surface temperature of a wood door.

Damage caused or contributed to by excessive heat or solar exposure associated with black or other very dark finishes is not covered under this Limited Warranty.

This includes warping, checking, cracking, joint movement, panel movement, resin movement, and finish deterioration.

The use of a dark finish does not eliminate warranty coverage for an otherwise covered manufacturing defect that is unrelated to the finish, heat, or solar exposure.

10. STORM DOORS

Installing a storm door in front of a Timber & Hutch wood door can trap excessive heat and moisture between the storm door and wood door.

Damage caused or contributed to by the installation or use of a storm door—including warping, cracking, checking, joint movement, panel movement, or finish failure—is not covered.

The presence of a storm door does not eliminate coverage for an otherwise covered manufacturing defect unrelated to its installation or use.

11. FINISH

The finish itself is not warranted, whether applied by Timber & Hutch or by another party.

This includes, without limitation:

Surface preparation
Sealing
Stain or paint application
Clear coating
Film build
Adhesion
Sheen
Color matching
Fading
Dulling
Chalking
Discoloration
Weathering
Normal finish deterioration

Exterior finishes are maintenance coatings and naturally deteriorate from sunlight, moisture, temperature, weather, cleaning, environmental exposure, and normal use.

Minor variations in color and sheen are inherent in hand-applied finishes and natural wood and are not defects.

The finish protects the underlying wood. Therefore, warping, swelling, cupping, splitting, checking, joint movement, water intrusion, or other damage caused or contributed to by finish degradation, finish failure, insufficient finish, or failure to maintain the finish is not covered.

12. UNFINISHED DOORS

Unfinished doors require special care.

An unfinished Timber & Hutch door must be completely finished and sealed within five (5) days of delivery.

All six sides—including the face, back, top, bottom, and both vertical edges—must be properly sealed using a high-quality exterior wood finishing system suitable for the application.

Because Timber & Hutch cannot control the products, preparation, application, environment, or workmanship used when a door is field-finished, unfinished doors are not warranted against water damage, moisture-related movement, or warping.

Failure to properly and promptly finish and seal an unfinished door may exclude resulting damage from warranty coverage.

13. MAINTENANCE

Exterior solid wood requires ongoing maintenance.

The owner is responsible for periodically inspecting and maintaining:

The protective finish
Sealants
Weatherstripping
Sill and threshold
Glazing
Hardware
Other components necessary to protect the door from moisture and environmental exposure

Particular attention should be given to the top and bottom edges and surfaces receiving significant sunlight or weather exposure.

Finish must be maintained or renewed before deterioration exposes the wood to moisture or excessive weathering.

Damage caused or contributed to by insufficient or neglected maintenance is not covered.

14. NATURAL WOOD CHARACTERISTICS

Natural characteristics of real wood are not defects.

These include:

Knots consistent with the selected species or grade
Grain variation
Natural color and tone variation
Mineral streaks
Texture variation
Density variation
Raised or lifted grain
Natural darkening or lightening
Differences between individual boards
Seasonal movement
Minor surface checking

Surface checks measuring up to 1/8 inch in width are considered within acceptable limits and are not defects.

Natural characteristics may become more visible as the wood ages and responds to sunlight, moisture, temperature, and humidity.

15. NORMAL WOOD MOVEMENT

Wood naturally absorbs and releases moisture as environmental conditions change.

Normal expansion, contraction, checking, joint movement, panel movement, and dimensional changes resulting from seasonal or environmental conditions are expected characteristics of solid wood and are not defects.

Wood movement by itself does not establish a manufacturing defect.

16. WARP

For purposes of this warranty, “warp” means distortion within the door slab itself. It does not include alignment or relationship between the door and its jamb, frame, wall, threshold, hinges, hardware, or surrounding structure.

Warp is considered warrantable only when:

Warp exceeds 1/4 inch within any 36-inch by 80-inch section of the door
Timber & Hutch determines that the condition resulted from a covered defect in material or workmanship
All storage, installation, finishing, maintenance, environmental, and overhang requirements of this Limited Warranty have been satisfied

Warp coverage does not apply to doors exceeding eight (8) feet in height or forty-two (42) inches in width.

Temporary or seasonal movement may be allowed a reasonable period to stabilize before Timber & Hutch makes a warranty determination.

17. FREE-FLOATING PANELS

Where applicable, Timber & Hutch door panels are designed to float within the surrounding rails and stiles.

This allows natural expansion and contraction without placing excessive stress on the door.

Panels may shift slightly or move off center over time. Seasonal contraction may expose a portion of an edge that was previously concealed.

These are characteristics of traditional solid-wood construction and are not defects.

Panels must not be glued, nailed, screwed, caulked, or otherwise permanently fastened in a manner that prevents normal movement.

Damage caused by restricting normal panel movement is not covered.

18. GLASS

Glass supplied with the door carries a one (1) year limited warranty from the date of delivery against manufacturing defects and excessive discoloration attributable to a manufacturing defect.

Glass breakage is not covered.

Minor scratches, surface marks, and other cosmetic imperfections that are not readily visible to the unaided eye from a distance of six (6) feet or greater under normal viewing and lighting conditions are considered within acceptable limits and do not constitute a defect or qualify for warranty repair or replacement.

Glass should be evaluated from approximately six (6) feet away while viewing the door under normal daylight or normal interior lighting. Inspection using flashlights, spotlights, magnification, unusually intense lighting, or viewing at extreme angles does not establish a warrantable cosmetic defect.

The glass warranty does not cover scratching or damage occurring after delivery, impact damage, damage caused during installation or construction, chemical damage, damage from abrasive cleaners, or environmental deterioration.

Visual characteristics inherent in textured, seeded, restoration, stained, decorative, or handmade glass—including bubbles, seeds, waves, texture variations, slight distortions, and other characteristics associated with the selected glass style—are not defects.

19. HARDWARE AND THIRD-PARTY COMPONENTS

Locksets, deadbolts, handles, multipoint systems, hinges, electronic components, and other third-party hardware are subject to the warranties, if any, provided by their respective manufacturers.

Timber & Hutch will reasonably assist customers in identifying the manufacturer or obtaining replacement components when appropriate.

Unless expressly stated otherwise in writing, labor, removal, installation, programming, adjustment, and other costs associated with third-party hardware are not covered by this Limited Warranty.

20. MODIFICATIONS AND ALTERATIONS

Damage caused or contributed to by alterations or modifications performed after delivery is not covered.

This includes improper cutting, trimming, planing, drilling, routing, hardware preparation, field finishing, glass modification, or structural modification.

Normal installation work performed correctly by a qualified installer does not, by itself, void warranty coverage.

A modification or alteration does not eliminate coverage for an otherwise covered manufacturing defect unrelated to that modification or alteration.

21. OTHER EXCLUSIONS

This Limited Warranty does not cover damage caused or contributed to by circumstances outside Timber & Hutch’s control, including:

Improper storage
Improper installation
Improper maintenance
Improper finishing or refinishing
Water intrusion
Excessive moisture or dryness
Extreme temperatures
Excessive solar exposure
Structural movement or building settlement
Improper framing
Hardware malfunction
Abuse or misuse
Impact or accidental damage
Animals or insects
Mold or mildew
Construction damage
Chemical exposure
Fire
Flood
Hail
Wind
Earthquake
Tornado
Hurricane
Severe weather
Other acts of nature

22. BUILDING CODES AND PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

Building codes and project requirements vary by jurisdiction.

Unless expressly agreed otherwise in writing by Timber & Hutch before manufacture, determining applicable building codes, permitting requirements, wind-load requirements, fire ratings, egress requirements, energy requirements, accessibility requirements, and other regulatory requirements is the responsibility of the purchaser and the purchaser’s builder, architect, contractor, or other project professional.

A product manufactured correctly according to the approved order is not defective because it does not satisfy a requirement that was not disclosed to and expressly accepted by Timber & Hutch before manufacture.

23. FILING A WARRANTY CLAIM

Warranty claims must be submitted in writing to sales@timberandhutch.com with “Warranty Claim” in the subject line.

Claims must be submitted within the applicable warranty period and within thirty (30) days after discovery of the claimed condition.

The claim should include:

Customer name
Order number
Delivery date
Installation date
Installation location
Description of the claimed problem
Photographs showing the entire door
Close-up photographs of the claimed issue
Photographs showing the door installed in its opening
Photographs showing the exterior overhang and surrounding environment
Measurements relevant to the claimed condition
Any additional information reasonably requested by Timber & Hutch

Timber & Hutch may request additional documentation or a reasonable opportunity to inspect the product before determining warranty coverage.

The customer must not destroy, dispose of, materially alter, or perform substantial repairs to the claimed defective portion before Timber & Hutch has had a reasonable opportunity to evaluate it.

24. REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT

If Timber & Hutch determines that a covered defect exists, Timber & Hutch will determine the appropriate remedyand may, at its option:

Repair the affected component
Provide replacement components
Replace the affected portion of the product
Replace the door

Replacement of an entire door is not required when a covered condition can reasonably be corrected through repair or replacement of an affected component.

Replacement wood or components may differ reasonably in grain, color, tone, texture, or appearance because wood is a natural material and changes over time.

A repaired or replaced product does not restart or extend the warranty. Coverage continues only for the remainder of the original applicable warranty period.

25. COSTS NOT COVERED

Unless Timber & Hutch expressly agrees otherwise in writing, this Limited Warranty does not cover:

Removal or de-installation
Installation or reinstallation
Contractor or other labor
Carpentry or framing
Painting, staining, finishing, or refinishing
Drywall or trim work
Masonry
Equipment rental
Travel or lodging
Temporary doors or coverings
Loss of use
Other costs incurred in accessing, removing, repairing, refinishing, transporting, or reinstalling the product

Timber & Hutch’s obligation is limited to the remedies expressly provided by this Limited Warranty, subject to applicable law.

26. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Timber & Hutch’s total liability arising from a covered warranty claim shall not exceed the original purchase price actually paid for the affected product.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Timber & Hutch will not be liable for incidental, indirect, special, or consequential damages arising from a product or warranty claim.

Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so this limitation or exclusion may not apply to you.

27. IMPLIED WARRANTIES AND STATE LAW

This is a Limited Warranty.

To the extent permitted by applicable federal and state law, any implied warranties applicable to the product, including implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, are limited in duration to the duration of this written Limited Warranty.

Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to you.

This Limited Warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state.

Nothing in this Limited Warranty excludes or limits any right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

28. COMPLETE LIMITED WARRANTY

This document constitutes Timber & Hutch’s written Limited Warranty for the products covered by it.

No employee, salesperson, dealer, installer, contractor, manufacturer, subcontractor, or other person is authorized to expand or modify this Limited Warranty except through a written agreement expressly approved by an authorized representative of Timber & Hutch.

Statements or representations made by third parties do not modify this Limited Warranty.

Nothing issued by Timber & Hutch to an end customer extends or modifies Timber & Hutch’s obligations under this Limited Warranty unless expressly stated in writing by an authorized representative.
